From 1st August 2025, some customers on 50-100 Mbps NBN plans may be upgraded to higher tiers. This ensures reliable service and positions you to benefit from faster speeds, better performance, and future-proof connectivity as NBN retires legacy packages.
From 1st August 2025, NBN Co is rolling out pricing changes under its new Special Access Undertaking (SAU). These changes affect how bandwidth (known as CVC โ Connectivity Virtual Circuit) is charged for plans on 100 Mbps and below.
Lower-tier plans (12 Mbps, 25 Mbps, 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps) now include only a small CVC allowance, making them less viable for customers with higher usage.
Customers who routinely use more bandwidth than the allowance may see service performance degrade or their plan become unavailable at their location.
To ensure reliable service, some customers will be selectively upgraded to higher-tier plans depending on their usage profile and NBN availability.
We will review usage patterns and NBN availability at your premises. Customers may be upgraded if:
๐ High peak-time usage โ If your household or business consistently uses more than the bundled CVC allowance on sub-100 Mbps plans.
๐ซ Plan availability โ In some locations, NBN is progressively discontinuing certain lower-speed plans.
๐ Multiple users or devices โ Streaming, video calls, cloud backups, or gaming sessions across several devices can quickly exceed what lower-tier plans comfortably deliver.
๐ฎ Future-proofing โ Higher-speed tiers align with NBNโs roadmap, which eliminates usage-based CVC charges entirely from 2027, simplifying costs and improving service stability.
While this upgrade may feel like a change, it comes with clear advantages:
๐ Faster speeds for downloads, uploads, and streaming.
๐ฆ More reliable performance at peak hours โ no โslowdownsโ from hitting CVC limits.
๐ป Better for remote work and study, with smoother video calls and file sharing.
๐ฎ Improved gaming experience with reduced lag and better consistency.
๐ข Business resilience โ multiple staff or devices can work without congestion.
๐ Future-ready โ as NBN retires older pricing models, being on a higher plan means your service stays stable and supported.
Customers who are selectively upgraded will be charged at the higher plan rate.
You will be notified on your invoice when the charge applies.
